COUNTER TERROR EXPO
MAY 16-17, 2012
WASHINGTON CONVENTION CENTER, WASHINGTON DC

Counter Terror Expo is a unique expo and conference designed specifically to address the issues of thwarting terrorist attacks and securing the United States. Counter Terror Expo US focuses on the collective efforts and shared responsibilities of the Counter Terror community - Federal, State, Local and Private-sector partners to maintain critical homeland security capabilities. SOUTHERN DESERT REGIONAL POLICE ACADEMY - May 2012

The Southern Desert Regional Police Academy (SDRPA), located in Henderson, Nevada, is establishing an interest list for all law enforcement agencies wishing to train new employees requiring Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I, II, and III police training. Tentatively, the SDRPA is planning to launch an academy in May of 2012. Depending on the needs of the participants and the number of recruits, the SDRPA will either run separate category I and category II sessions, or combine the two categories into a hybrid academy that starts all recruits at the same time then branches off to cover the topics specific to their desired category.
In order to plan for this session, the SDRPA is requesting that any agency wishing to participate with this session please contact us as soon as possible.

REGIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CENTER

The Regional Public Safety Training Center in Reno, Nevada, conducts basic law enforcement training that is approved by POST for the education training requirements.  All courses have limited seating and registration is required.

Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) educates America's law enforcement agencies about appropriate response to officers and their families affected by line-of-duty traumas through providing free, 3-day training sessions held at various locations and dates around the country.

WASHOE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

The Washoe County Sheriff's Department conducts basic law enforcement training.  The training applicable to law enforcement personnel is approved by POST for the education training requirements.  Visit the website at http://www.washoesheriff.com/academy-main-page.htm.

 


NEVADA POST ACADEMY

The basic law enforcement training academy is conducted at the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training, 5587 Wa Pai Shone Avenue, in Carson City.  This is a combined Category I and Category II training program which is available for persons presently employed by a Nevada law enforcement agency. For the Nevada POST Academy schedule, click here.

FEDERAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

The Office of State and Local Training (OSL), Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), is a federal agency dedicated to providing training to law enforcement agencies across the United States. The training that the National Center provides is tuition free or reduced by 20%-50%.  The National Center exports several training courses to sites around the U.S. each year.  Not only can agencies attend these courses but they can also apply to attend advanced courses taught at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, GA or Artesia, NM. 

If you intend to use training from this source for continuing education, first contact Nevada POST to determine if the training qualifies for Nevada's continuing education training requirements.

·        In the Library & Information Portal, NLEARN has two categories (Physical Fitness Training and Defensive Tactics Training) with articles… “Replication training, the next generation of scenario-based training”…Kathy Vonk on “Interval Training” and “functional Fitness”….also,  “Training at the TASER Master Instructor Conference 2009” in the Video Training/Law Enforcement category…and more…..

·        The Academy Director’s Forum has several posts on defensive tactics and firearms training….this is the spot for each of you to comment on new training initiatives and innovative ideas…..plus, it is a great place to post “training issues or problems”…there is a wealth of expertise with the NLEARN membership….let them help!
